Assessment of the status of infrastructure investment in Vietnam
According to research from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), in recent years, investment in infrastructure development in Vietnam in the public and private sectors has averaged 5.7% in gross domestic product each year, ranking first in Southeast Asia; Countries like Indonesia or the Philippines spend less than 3%, while Thailand and Malaysia spend less than 2%. In terms of the whole Asian territory, Vietnam is second only to China with an investment of 6.8% of GDP.
Between now and 2030, ADB estimates that the region's emerging economies will have to invest up to $2,630 billion to build transportation networks, strengthen electricity supply, and upgrade clean water and sanitation systems. In particular, Vietnam, with the goal of becoming an economic "tiger" in the region, and one of the fastest growing countries in the world, is focusing on boosting investment and spending in infrastructure to attract more capital from abroad.
